ASTANA – The OSCE needs greater transparency and political dialog and should try to become more useful for all of its members, Petros Efthimiou, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly president said at a press-conference in Astana, Lenta.ru reported.

He said the summit is important for OSCE’s future. The preliminary expenses for the OSCE summit are about 11m euros, OSCE summit executive secretary Serzhan Abdykarimov said at a press conference in Astana November 29. About a fourth of the cost is provided by the OSCE member-countries.

A Kazakh family has named their newborn child Summitkhan in honour of the summit.

In other news, the OSCE will send a planned police mission to Kyrgyzstan early next year, Herbert Salber, director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre said in Astana November 29, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

Some 30 unarmed policemen will be deployed mostly in the south of the country to help local police and to rebuild interethnic trust.
