Polygraphs ordered for new Kyrgyz financial police, tax officials

BISHKEK – Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva signed an edict ordering polygraph testing for certain categories of civil service applicants, 24.kg reported September 1, quoting the edict.

The polygraphs are meant to eliminate the potential for corruption. The government plans first to polygraph financial police and tax service applicants and then widen the pool, 24.kg reported.

The government has suggested that officials instituting the polygraph system seek funds from international donors.

A previous effort to mandate polygraphs for civil service applicants failed in 2006.
