DUSHANBE – One of the August 22-23 prison escapees from Dushanbe has been recaptured, Ferghana.ru reported September 2.
Tajik Interior Ministry authorities said they recaptured Ibrokhim Nasredinov, a reputed organiser of the escape, in a village 20km east of Dushanbe. Other details were not available.
Authorities were pursuing a second escapee in the Vakhdat District, Avesta.tj reported September 2. The fugitive is a native of Dagestan, Russia, a security agency source told Avesta.tj.
In apparently related news, President Emomali Rakhmon fired State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Chairman Khairiddin Abdurakhimov and his deputies, except for Maj. Gen. Saimumin Yatimov, Ferghana.ru reported September 2. Some observers linked the firing to the prison escape.
Yatimov has succeeded Abdurakhimov, Lenta.ru reported.
