KARACHI – The Karachi city government has suspended 14 officials of the Arms License Branch (ALB) for alleged negligence and irregularities in issuing gun licenses. Karachi city district administrator Fazalur Rehman took the action after receiving numerous complaints about ALB officials and learning of media reports, including a report by Central Asia Online regarding calls to disarm Karachi, said an ALB official.

District officer (DO) ALB Nuzhat Fatima has been directed to report to the Administrator Secretariat, while DO Law Secretariat Agha Zaheeruddin was given the additional duty of supervising the DO Arms License Branch, the ALB official told Central Asia Online.

Rehman also ordered sealing of the ALB’s records and disclosure of all required information to the inquiry committee.
