SIALKOT, Pakistan -- Authorities said they arrested two police officials on the charge of silently watching a mob beat to death and hang two young brothers in public in Sialkot, Punjab, media reported August 20.
According to a video clip shown to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, eight police officials passively witnessed the men's torture and made no effort to stop the mob. Police made five other arrests on suspicion of involvement in the lynching.
A small mob attacked Hafiz Mughees and Hafiz Muneeb, accusing them of being robbers, before hanging them upside down August 15, media reported.
The Punjabi government also removed top police officers in the district for letting the incident happen and not taking prompt action against the suspects, media added.
