Ex-Naryn governor Tynchtykbek Chikiyev killed

DZHAL, Kyrgyzstan -- Gunmen shot former Naryn Oblast governor Tynchtykbek Chikiyev to death and wounded his wife in their home August 14, Lenta.ru reported August 16.
Chikiyev served as governor November 2009 to March 2010, reportedly resigning amid concerns about unpopular electricity rate increases.
Chikiyev might have been slain by organised-crime groups seeking control of the Kara-Keche coal deposits, Polit.ru reported August 15.
