DUSHANBE -- Construction of the Rogun hydroelectric dam will require the resettlement of about 1,500 families, or 6,538 people, according to Tajik Labour Minister Makhmadamin Makhmadaminov, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported July 28.
The national and local governments are offering grants, loans and other aid to the families, he said.
The authorities are offering unsuitably arid resettlement locations to Tajiks accustomed to farming, Nurobod district resident Gulnisso Rakhmatova complained to RFE/RL.
