BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz president Roza Otunbayeva has fired seven justices of the Supreme Court, including chairman Erkinbek Toktomambetov, without explanation, news media reported July 28.

In her decree Otunbayeva said she acted based on the Law on Status of Judges. The Supreme Court has 33 members.

The public has complained that judges often do the bidding of authorities rather than protect the rule of law, First Deputy Prime Minister Azimbek Beknazarov said July 28, according to 24.kg.
