ALMATY – Authorities have opened two fraud cases involving the National AIDS Centre, Kazakhstan Today reported July 28, quoting Almaty senior prosecutor Azamat Alibekov.
Records show that 500,000 purchased syringes never arrived at the Karaganda and Manguistau AIDS centres, he said, adding that HIV testing systems worth 13.3m KZT (US $90,292) intended only for Almaty were recorded as sent to southern Kazakhstan but never reached that destination. Authorities are investigating the director of a pharmaceutical firm, Azha Pharma, in the syringe case and several unidentified National AIDS Centre employees in the testing-system case.
