DUSHANBE – Deputy Finance Minister Jamoliddin Nuraliyev, a son-in-law of President Emomali Rakhmon, denied having links to controversial tollway operator Innovative Road Solutions (IRS), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported July 12.
A man named Jamoliddin Nuraliyev registered the firm in the British Virgin Islands, Deutsche Welle reported July 6. Rakhmon's son-in-law denied that he was the registrant to RFE/RL July 9.
The finance ministry provides no funds for IRS operations in Tajikistan, he said. IRS collects tolls on the Dushanbe-Chanak tollway. Motorists have complained the tolls are unaffordable and submitted a 10,000-signature petition demanding their abolition.
