Fake academic degrees claimed by 22 Pakistani legislators

ISLAMABAD – The BA degrees of 22 out of 934 members of the national and provincial assemblies are counterfeit, a standing parliamentary committee investigation concluded, according to media.

Six of 314 degrees the Higher Education Commission submitted to Punjab University for verification were bogus, Geo News reported. At least 217 are authentic. The university is examining the remaining degrees since their records are missing, media reported.

The Higher Education Commission directed all 22 universities in the region to verify degrees held by legislators and is also verifying 36 degrees issued by foreign universities.
