ISLAMABAD - Women lawmakers were more active and assertive than their male counterparts in the lower house of parliament during the second parliamentary year, according to a study released by the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN).
Although women make up 22 percent of the National Assembly, they accounted for more than half of the parliamentary business conducted during the year, said FAFEN, which released its study March 8 - International Women's Day.
The female legislators submitted 1,826 out of 3,314 questions, tabled 43 bills and sponsored 23 resolutions on various issues. In contrast, male legislators filed only 6 private member’s bills and 13 resolutions, the NGO said.
