ASHGABAT - A Belgian-French consortium's business venture valued at more than 2 billion euros will guarantee a reliable energy supply for Turkmenistan's capital. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov assigned the plan's preparation to Enex Process Engineering (Belgium), the main contractor; and Schneider Electric (France), the supplier of electrical and technical equipment, news media reported.
The venture, which will reportedly require three stages to complete by 2020, is to include the construction of "dozens of new power substations" and the laying of "several hundred kilometres of electrical cable", news media reported.
During peak times in the capital, electrical consumption reaches 400MW, leading to frequent power outages. The engineers of this project expect to provide a completely reliable power supply in an effort to aid Ashgabat's long-term development prospects.
